KARACHI:

A voluntary blood donation camp is being organised at the Sindh High Court by the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) from May 20 to May 22.

The camp was inaugurated by the chief justice of Sindh High Court, Justice Maqbool Baqar, on Tuesday. DUHS pro-vice-chancellor Dr M Umar Farooq and registrar Prof Dr Nadeem A Sheikh were the guests of honour at the occasion.

The camp is part of the DUHS’ initiative for the provision of safe blood products to needy patients. The initiative uses voluntary blood donation, world-standard laboratory services and trained experts to ensure the quality of services.

Dr Farooq, in his opening remarks, said that blood donation was one way through which a single donor could save up to three lives. He added that the ‘Safe Blood Transfusion Services Programme’ by the DUHS aimed to provide quality blood transfusion services to citizens. The purpose is to create a culture of voluntary blood donation through communication and education and to build a stable blood-donor pool by motivating and recruiting new donors from low-risk populations. The patients, in turn, are provided with safe and efficacious blood products.
