The Ministry of Science and Technology has received about 900 applications for 10 administrative and technical posts in affiliated organisations advertised three weeks ago.
According to ministry officials, the applications would be scrutinised in the next few days. A committee headed by an additional secretary would shortlist candidates, stated a source on the condition of anonymity. “We are considering shortlisting 10 candidates for every post but the number may be increased in case of tough competition,” said the official.
The Pakistan Science Foundation which is an apex body for promotion and funding of scientific and technological research in the country is being run by an acting chairperson since September 2013. The posts of directors general of National Institute of Electronics, Islamabad, and National Institute of Oceanography, Karachi, have been open for the last four years and junior officers have been handling their duties.
Other organisations for which posts were advertised include the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, Pakistan Council for Renewable Energy Technologies, Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority, Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources.
