The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) will suspend the driving licenses of drivers who violate the speed limit thrice and it will not allow over- or improperly-loaded trucks and trailers to ply the highways and motorways.

These views were expressed by the NHMP Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema during an NHMP operational meeting on Sunday, according to an NHMP press release.

The meeting was attended by senior Operational Commanders from Lahore, Karachi, Sukkur, Multan and Quetta through video link.

Important operational matters related to all zones were discussed in detail, according to the NHMP release.

These are good decisions but Mr. Cheema did not give details. For example driving 10 KM over the speed limit is completely different than driving 50 KM over speed limit. Secondly there is a misconception about over loading. The police check the size of load or number of passenger and declare it overloading but sometimes a truck carrying steel bars can have more weight and could cause more damage. Also Police should be able to check and restrict weight per axel.

If u drive without a valid license the fine is only Rs 500. It is better to pay Rs 500 than to get a red entry.
