Initiation meeting: Low-cost housing schemes to be developed

A high-level meeting on the initiation of the prime minister’s low-cost housing scheme was held at Qasr-e-Naz on Saturday during which matters such as including a provision for high standard of residential facilities to the low income citizens of Karachi were discussed.


The meeting was attended by the federal Housing Secretary Younus Dhaga, Karachi Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority director-general, officers of relevant KMC departments including land, katchi abadi and public housing scheme.


Dhaga said measures were being taken to provide quality residential facilities to low- income citizens across the country. He said the Sindh Katchi Abadies Authority and KMC should jointly determine the number of katchi abadies, their population and the area covered by these slums so that a model developed accordingly. He said a fund was also being set up on the federal level, which would be used to improve the residential facilities of the katchi abadies.
