LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Friday summoned the Punjab accountant general to explain a 23-year delay in the release of pension of a retired employee of the Irrigation Department.

Abdul Latif, the pensioner, filed a contempt of court petition and said the authorities had not obeyed a judicial order in this regard. He said the court had directed the respondents to resolve the matter but his pension had not been released.

The petitioner said he had retired from service in 1991 but never got his pension. He sought contempt of court proceedings against the accountant general and other respondents for defying the court order.

Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan adjourned the hearing till May 19 and directed the Punjab AG to appear in person along with complete record of the petitioner’s case.
