Ali Hasan Raza – a 24-year-old international relations student – was sleeping in his hostel room when three unidentified men entered his room and attacked him with steel rods.
The attackers left when nearby students arrived to rescue him. According to The New Indian Express, the incident took place early May 13.
With injuries on his head, neck and back, Ali underwent treatment at Puducherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) after the attack, the Times of India (TOI) reported.
Speaking from India, Ali told Express News that he was being facilitated by the Indian authorities and that police were active in pursuit of the culprits. He further said that the state governor came to meet him in the hospital.
Ali emphasised that he was never discriminated on the basis of his religion or nationality while studying at the Pondicherry University.
While speaking to Express News, Ali’s father Ahmed Raza said his son was in better condition and that this was the first incident of such kind during Ali’s two-year stay in India.
Ahmed said Ali was due to return to Pakistan in a few days as he had finished his study programme.
The TOI report stated that the Students Federation of India (SFI) has asked the university to take all measures to identify the attackers and initiate stringent inquiry against them.
"The university should conduct a flawless probe into the matter and nab the culprits. The safety of students must be ensured. We call on the whole student community of Puducherry to condemn the violence and protest against the security lapse in the university," SFI secretary A Anand was quoted as saying in the TOI report.
Anand further added that many students had complained that a few groups of students had been assaulting innocent students on the campus.

Incredible india. The biggesssssssst democracy in the world. I no longer consider myself india, feel ashamed.
@Abdul: India is not interested to play with the Pakistani, but Pakistan pressurizes on India to play the same.
Cause Money comes in this matches Directly & Indirectly.
Ali Ashgar
@Shekar: Are you suggesting that there is no difference between a Pakistani student and a terrorist? It is because of people like you that we have cross border problems. Grow up!
@Mr Visal, what you did in Golden Temple, Assam, Kashmir, Gujrat and many more...
Dear Pak-friends, Please do not judge India or Indians based on the actions of a few senseless morons. India is mostly populated with people like me who want to go about our lives and make our ends meet. We encourage more Pakistani boys and girls to come and study here. Only when you come here, you will realize we are also normal and ordinary people just like you trying to build a good future for our children.
We both need to work very hard to bring this senseless enmity created by our politicians to an end!
i would like to ADD that our students are in India not because of Indian universities.but in UN program for international relations.it is responsibilities of international community to look after this kind of incidents.WE HAVE SO MANY INDIAN and from around the WORLD students in our beloved country PAKISTAN, but they will be not beaten... its Coward ACT...SHAME who did it to a alone sleeping person...
@Polpot: What evidence share it with us also as You seem to be pretty sure...
@Visal: Yes, And thats why we should ignore this news cause according to you Pakistani patients are being treated in your hospitals. Dont think this a valid reason to anyone
This is the liberalism which is discussed on their shows every now and then... Hopefully justice is not denied this time and hopefully concern is shown instead of as usual denying it by saying he is an agent!!! If he was an agent this wouldn't have been the situation... This is such a sad incident which has occurred. This truly symbolizes an extremist behavior. This is also being said that people from other countries are also a part of many universities in India so does this mean that this was done deliberately with a Pakistani??
@Shekar... FYI ... before asking for justice ... related to Mumbai 26 ... kindly note that your own ministers have accepted the fact that mumabi drama was sponsored and created in india, moreover it was Indian government behind "MUMBAI DRAMA"....
Blame ISI now :)
Mr goalgappa@ what you did in balochistan
I wonder what would have we done with an Indian student if one was studying in a Pakistani university? Let's not blame good people who certainly do exist in India as well due to some bad elements.
As a peace loving Pakistani I appreciate what good people in India are doing in current situation for our citizen, and strongly condemn what hate mongers have done.
What r these indians doing here. Mind your businesses, we dont require their comments. This act against a Pakistani is deplorable. The Government must take this officially. If this in reaction to expulsion of their surrogate journalists, then its shameful. People who elected Modi to power says everything!
this is really shocking ........
To all proponents of two nation theory... +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Its already a three nation theory and soon to be a four nation theory...!
@Tim: "Why did he went to India? when there are so many schools in Pakistan.." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ the correct sentence is Why did he go to India? when there are so many schools in Pakistan.. You have answered the question yourself with the kind of english.....
@Mahnoor:
"Going to India for studies does not invalidate the Two-Nation Theory. But getting beaten up because you’re a Muslim and Pakistani does!"
Sorry, it does.
A Muslim Pakistani coming to India for higher education destroys two nation theory to dirt.
Why?
Pakistan was created to protect Hindus from Muslims and provide them getter opportunity.
Today, that Pakistan has failed to give him good education that he had to come to the same country which you had separated from.
@Visal: After what you did in Kashmir, you should be thankful that we are even talking with you, you warmongering Indian... , think if USA was in place of Pakistan what it would have done with India for Kashmir... !!!
He's 24 and he's in India to pursue his Ph.D? How?
His father says he has finished his studies which means the Ph.D is done? If Ph.D is complete does that mean he enrolled in Ph.D at the age of 19?
The Express News clip says he was there for his Ph.D? Really messed up facts Express. Please improve yourself and stop reporting wrong facts.
Just WOW!!!!
As an Indian, I am deeply ashamed and disturbed. We have turned into a country of violent monsters :-( My deepest apologies to the family of Ali Hasan Raza.
Writer and all pakistanis@ what pakistan did 26/11 i think you should be thankful that still pak students, artists are welcome in india ,think if usa was in india' place then what would happen to pakistan.
@ Uzair @ RUdra @ james
stop creating fuss .. I am impressed with the indian authorities good work guys and am sure you will be succeeded ..
@water bottle: "The very fact that a Pakistani had to come to India for higher education, destroys two nation theory."
Going to India for studies does not invalidate the Two-Nation Theory. But getting beaten up because you're a Muslim and Pakistani does!
Thank you Jinnah for Pakistan!
Jinnah got it right, Pakistan was NOT a mistake!
@Rudra,
Jinnah's daughter currently resided in New York City. She followed her Parsee husband and therefore has lived in India. Despite her children have nothing in common with Muslims, you Indians do care about them because through them your one-nation myth could be upheld. Just in case you have forgotten, Jinnah didn't fight for Pakistan for his daughter. She was an adult who could decide her path just like how 80 million Muslims in 1947 did.
I assumed you know your Prime Minister's daughter is a US citizen who is married to an American who ironically silent about human rights abuses in India?
The two-nation theory was dead in 1971 with the creation of Bangladesh? Didn't the one-nation theory was also rejected in 1971 by the refusal of Bangladesh to be united with West Bengal?
Patriot n@ yes india hospital charges 3 lakh for a kidney, heart operation and western countries charges 50-60 lakh now decide and one more think india medical tourisam one of the best in world
Its obviously the TTP that attacked this guy cause... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ He went to India to study.
@Candid1: I think going to India is a good choice if you study international relations. If i was a student of International relations in Pakistan my first spot will be INDIA since there is always something happening and there is so much to learn from it.
I am creating a page on Facebook titled as "INDIANS NEED TO STOP ATTACKING PAKISTANIS"
The reason is that I myself have experienced verbal attacks by Indians ever since I came to the US in 2006. BY Indian students, while eating at an Indian restaurants, at Dunkin Donuts. Recently, they all got together and starting hooting at me. When I confronted them they all shifted the blame on me saying that "I am making things up".
Even though I am half Indian myself, I am so sorry that my father still feels strongly for India. I don't blame him but I feel that we Pakistanis need to be more vocal about these attacks. Please join my group and also let me know if you think this is a good idea on my facebook page.
Stay safe you all:)
Soofia
On a serious note, am I on a Pakistani news website? Isn't ET a Pakistani paper..it has even got '.pk' in the end...I see mostly people from the other side of our eastern border..what's going on?
From all the comments, especially Indians one, wish all Pakistanis read them and stopped worshipping Bollywood.
Its sad if he was picked on only because of his nationality. We do not know complete facts. People on both sides of the border should be cautious calling each other enemies.India and Pakistan have issues like many neighbours it does not make each citizen of both countries an enemy. He did not break any rule by studying in India.Infact there should be a greater exchange of students between both countries.Long live universal friendship understanding and curtosy!!!!!!!
Dear Express news,
When you know the religion of attacker, you must be knowing the attackers as well. May be you are involved in a attack as well. Stop misleading the people.
Indian.S wrote: "This is his own fault. What the Pakistani student is doing in an Indian university. They are not welcome here."
-- You are absolutely correct. That is exactly what all rapists tell their victims. It is always the victim's fault; why was she looking so sexy?
Thank you for making it so plain and clear.
Lets not jump the gun...a few rotten eggs should not spoil the image of the majority. After all he was there for two years and by his own fathers account this was first incident!! The state governor as there and its important to watch how they handle this situation from here onwards
Why did he went to India? when there are so many schools in Pakistan..
@Indian: There is no point explaining you anything... first you are sorry keeping courtesy for him and still not accepting the fact where he was, who did it, and to WHOM it was done... You know what I just feel bad about people like you who are never ready to face the reality and instead of accepting it, you point others.....
No one should be blamed for this except the victim himself, why in the world he only find India to go for his studies, what was he trying to prove? Nothing has changed in the last 67 years and it will never change. if they can't spare Kashmiri students (from occupied Kashnir) what was he expecting?
Deeply saddened, ashamed and apologetic about the way people in this part of the subcontinent behaved.
Should have paid more attention in Pakistan History class, no?
Some people will just understand the Two Nation Theory the hard way.
Now what to say to these brainless Indians who don't even know there are student exchange programs that exist between both countries. So on the other hand I am wondering what are these so called intelligent super educated Indians are doing in Pakistan educational programs. I guess they found their own education system pathetic or what.... and of course if you go into little bit depth, you will find out that it was basically started by an Indian organization instead of an organization in Pakistan...
http://www.thehindu.com/news/international/south-asia/exchange-programme-facilitates-dialogue-between-indian-and-pakistani-students/article5515557.ece
Please do send your lame replies warmongering Indians... and for friendly Indians chill guys we do know how important are these cultural and student exchanges are not only between Pakistan and India but with other nations around the world as well...!!!
Look at the propaganda in the video how did they know the unidentified men were Hindus? When even the college people don't know who these unidentified men were? 2. the college students have been complaining since months regarding unidentified people harassing innocent students on campus and administration ignored it. One naked man even entered woman's hostel they complained the administration ignored it no action was taken. Now another person of this college is targeted turns out to be a Pakistani so its country based violence? The months of lawlessness in college, lack of empathy of administration should be ignored because you think it was country based violence? Grow up.its hooliganism of certain people who were messing with students had the administration nabbed them in first place no students would have been targeted no break out in woman's hostel would have happened 3. The victim pakistani in his own confession says he was Never discriminated or hated based on religion or country by people past 2 years. And the people who saved him were Hindus and indians only by the way. 4. India doesn't claim to be largest democracy it is. And for people questioning it first know the meaning of it. Democracy-people who vote and elect their leaders. Largest-because we are population of 1.2billion people who vote. So there you have it largest democracy in world!
How do they know the culprits were extremist HINDUS (as reported in pakistani media) A simple law and order incident is enough for pakistanis to spew fire.People in india do not get to watch pakistani channels,so the media in pakistan only spread this hatred amoung themselves.
as a first hand acoount on the incident it was not an indo-pak thing. it was a shia sunni thing that got him in this mess. As a key eyewitness to this incident, I have informed all the details to the police as well..@Caresless Whispers:
This is not the first time this incident has happened. Earlier Indian students did this to bunch of Kashimiri students and same Indian police and judiciary didn't give any sort of justice.
This has happened to Pakistani student and again nothing can be expected.
If it had been someone from United States or Israel story would had been different. Culprits would had been caught and probably were showing up in courts by now. Their degrees would had been cancelled and kicked out of Uni.
No doubt Pakistan is in a lot of mess, but you don't hear such incidents happening so frequently in Pakistan. One thing Pakistan excels at, taking care of foreigners.
Why you go to india to study something? Cant you go to some good university in a good country? Seems like the guy was inspired by indian films and went on to study in india :-D
As an Indian and a peace maker between the common people of the two countries, we the families of the two neighboring countries deplore this act and pray for his speedy and full recovery. We also demand that the persons involved in this act and all people in India who seek to divide us by religion or who abuse the national boundaries be charged with hate crimes suitable for such an egregious act.
look at the comments, people are thanking Mr Jinnah. I can only laugh. We even don't know if he was attach because he is Pakistani or something else.
Apologies to the student. Just as Pakistanis expect that all Muslims or Pakistanis are not condemned for acts of a few Pakistanis I would request the same courtesy. For every wrong deed there are many good acts too e.g treatment of sick kids from Pakistan etc. I'm met two families in delhi myself. The act is deplorable and there is no excuse but let's be reasonable in our condemnation.
@Queen: Why? Because you read that he was never discriminated in 2 years in India? That his fellow students defended him? That the police is investigating the attack? The governor came to meet him? Because you know - forget an Indian, if a non-Muslim is attacked in Pakistan, you cannot see support from fellow Muslims, no action is taken by police and certainly no plitican would go and expess solidarity.
YEs there is indeed a difference.
Incidentally, are you aware that Jinnah's daughter stayed back in India and her grandson and great grandson are multimillionaire industrialists?
@water bottle: Still trolling these pages, with your hate for Pakistanis and Muslims
@Usman: Pakistan did not figure in the Indian elections where the issues were development, corruption, dynasty. The student himself has said that he was never discriminated, the fellow students stood up for him, police are investigating and governor came to meet him. Does any of your governor go to meet people who may even have been killed? How doo you link this with Modi anyway?
@usman786: India is known for 'unlikeness of Muslims? Really? It has 180 million Muslims yu know?
@Parvez: Whoever did this was wrong. I do not see this as a reflection n India since the actions were not celebrated or condoned. If the governor came to see the boy and the poolice are actively investigating then in no way des this reflect on India. It only reflects on the culprits. It is no one's case that in a country of 1.2 billion there are no whackos. What i can say safely is that no one will shower these criminals with rose petals if arrested.
Also this student maybe a Pakistani but it is not at all clear that the attack owed itself to his natinality. Do Indians never attack other Indians ever? Do Pakistanis never attack other Pakistanis?
@Those linking this to Modi - Really? Neither is he in power in the center nor in the state of Puducherry where Pndicherry belongs.
There are good and bad people everywhere. My humble message to all Pakistanis and Indians is not to steroetype. Just because one Pakistani or a muslims does something wrong, it does not make all Pakistanis or Muslims bad. Similarly, just because few Indians did this, it does not make all Indians bad.
@Stranger:
The Indian press did cover the incident, as you can see here-
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Pakistani-student-in-Pondicherry-University-attacked-by-three-unidentified-men/articleshow/35067606.cms
http://www.newindianexpress.com/states/tamil_nadu/Unidentified-Men-Attack-Pakistani-Student-in-UT/2014/05/14/article2223528.ece
http://www.deccanchronicle.com/140514/nation-current-affairs/article/pakistani-student-assaulted-pondicherry
Also saying that this happened to him because he shouldn't have been there in the first place, is the same as saying that a person trapped in a well shouldn't be saved because he shouldn't have been playing around there in the first place.
Seems to me that the fact he was Pakistani, was merely coincidental. As it sounds like the same group has been attacking students at random. Also blaming an entire nation based off of the actions of a few individuals seems small minded. It would be much easier if you two countries could just stop hating each other. I know it's a lot to ask.
Let us not forget that Indian students came to his rescue. It is an Indian student association that is calling for a probe. He is in a hospital getting treatment and the Governor paid him a visit. Bad things happen but there are always good people around that make the difference. Thank you Student association for siding with Ali Raza.
This was sad incident and perhaps he was not singled out for being a Pakistani. I think the important element all the bloggers are missing is the reaction of the whole system when a wrong happens- right from fellow students, student union, Government, police, in effect the while society. That is a huge big difference between the two countries.
@Visal: Treat Pakistani patients out of sympathy?? Do you know how much they charge for liver diseases/transplants etc. The hospitals charges about 80 lacs to 100lacs(1 crore) from Pakistani patients in new Delhi hospitals and elsewhere. This is more about income generation than any friendly gesture. Never heard of medical/religious tourism.
It seems like this student was in the news in a positive way even before he was beaten up.
http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu/puducherry-home-to-pakistani-student/article3836641.ece
Who told you to go to study in India?
@Zulu: I must agree with you. This seems like an isolated incident that could happen to anybody. I don't understand why these readers get so excited. I wonder how many even read the whole story!
Although this does not seem to be the case of Pakistan hating, I strongly condemn the assault on that boy. I wish him speedy recovery. Pakistani's in general are treated at par with other Indian counterparts and make good friends.
@Indian: Legend! thats the only way, we as a region can progress, live and work happily & peacefully! People there is something known as humanity! We all need to understand that we are the same!
This is shameful. The hooligans need to be caught and punished accordingly. Reading through the whole article, you cannot help but appreciate Mr. Ali's generous gesture towards the host country. Even after such a horrible experience, he was all praise for fellow Indian students and the university. . Mr. Ali, hopefully the idiots would be caught soon and punished by the law. I would urge you to continue your study. . Sincerely
Hindus in Pakistan are mistreated on a daily bases and nothing is done to prevent these attacks, half the stories are not even given any media attention!
That is bad, whoever did that should be punish hard, it can start chain reaction
@stranger did you even read the article pe just came to troll? Original article from which tribune took source read it see if authorities condemned it or not than judge http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/puducherry/Attack-on-Pakistani-student-reveals-security-lapse-in-Pondicherry-University-SFI/articleshow/35122045.cms
@arif Tahir you education system and university is not better than india or even at par with india.India has 4 universities in top hundreds in world at 17th,27th,71st,99th your country not in it. Our country literacy rate is 74.04% yours is 54.9%. http://www.educationnews.com/2013/03/07/4-indian-universities-among-the-worlds-best/
Mr candid@yes india is heartless thats why even after 26/11 we treat pakistani patients in our hospital everyday,we welcome pakistani artist, commentetors .
@Uzair Malik: at least we don't beat them! instead i have always seen Pakistanis greeting any people from outside not only India but from over the globe in a very welcoming way! Pakistanis are generally hospitable people! or is it because no one comes here!
@Roshan: why he was looking for an Indian girl??if he did that,he invited trouble for himself..As a pakistani,he shouldnt take that much liberty and play safe
This world suffers because of narrow-mindedness and stupidity.
If only people on both borders and else where in the country stop generalizing the world will be such a better and peaceful place. The rescuers were Indians too. Stop hating every Indian just because of some monsters. And same goes for India. Not all Pakistanis are terrorists neither all Americans, Indians are.
@Polpot: At-least you must condemn this brutal act on humanitarian basis. But your comment shows how cheap your mentality is. ET plz not in this time. Let it publish.
why pakistani in india????
I hope the Aussie 'preferential treatment' continues for the Indian students. Seriously. Like they would stop going there.
@Professor: like what?,amputate limbs or cut him into half just to see how he holds on to...which univ on the earth doesn't have bullies,if he was targeted only cuz of his nationality which is highly unlikely as he survived 2yrs without any issue ....also remember what your newspapers written about plight of our students in Australia
@Stranger: Click on the link of Times of India (TOI) given above in the news-report and you'll see that an Indian newspaper did report it.
@ALi: How come you are alive with the same name
@uzair malik what two nation theory? First they cry for indian visa (tourist, work, religious) to enter india. Then they come here to get themselves medically treated in numbers crossing more than thousands each year. Each year the number of refugees increases from their country to ours. Then they come to study for their education. No liberal culture there to drink, pub, modern dresses so they visit indian metro cities for entertainment, discs and pubs. Travel to various tourist destination within the country. Look for jobs career in Bollywood, music industry, media by recruiting PR agency to market them and get you job here.settle in urban cities here and own flats. Don't even move when their visa expires and the govt has to remind them their time is up. Crave to play sports with india and about complain about participating in indian domestic league IPL. Even though we separated 67years back still they want to take part in our domestic state league. Seems like they only go to sleep at night to their country rest come back to india at day and enjoy things. If you had to do all this only why did you separate from india in first place? After all these things you enjoy here you still complain we being largest enemy do a Mumbai 11.. but won't stop mooching all benefits from us. Ungrateful people. They should be sent back. They don't have all these facilities, it's their problem why should we cater them? The decided their future at 1947.
Its a typical scene in any college in India. The only motive here could be "ladki ka chakkar". He is a young student, must have tried with some girl and got beaten up eventually. Highly deplorable and condemnable....
As an Indian, I can safely vouch that most Indians will denounce this appalling act. We believe in Athithi Devo Bhava (the guest is like God), and it is shameful that certain individuals could not uphold those basic values.
I studied in a university abroad, and a heated discussion about my homeland, Kashmir, came about and it ended it in Pakistani students taking a lunge. Do I blame all Pakistanis, or Pakistan as a nation? No. It was a scuffle and it ends there. .
Note that it is us "trolls" who are first to criticise our own people!
What shameful what he is doing in india. We pakistani have absolutely no respect at all.
usman786 who told you that? you media? say whatever you want but thank god that i live in India not your Pakistan. Do not use religion for your personal or political hatred. Just look at yourself what have you done to your country.
May be, the people bashing India in the comments here, did not read the story completely and just read the headline. The student emphasized that in his 2 years in the university, he was never discriminated for being a Pakistani or Muslim. If Indians were hateful against him, he would not have had stayed for 2 long years. It could pretty much be some sort of student rivalry which may have nothing to do with him being Muslim or Pakistani. As per TOI, it was a case of mistaken identity. He probably was taken for someone else. As for some people chest thumping for two nation theory, well Indians can't thank enough to Jinnah and Iqbal for being such visionaries.
Mr proud pakistani@ i really like your comment that india enemy no 1,thats why every day pak patients come to india for treatment, pakistani artists come to bollywood.
@Express Tribune.. Keep posting vile comments from indians but block and censors mine. Nice even playing field.
@Uzair Malik: Oh it wasn't explained when Kasab and his brothers slaughtered poor and innocent Indians during mumbai raid on non-believers ? Pathetic and inhumane comment.
@Asif No matter if they are South or North Indian. They were drunk, and South India has their fair share of thugs.
How do you know South Indians don't have that kind of feeling?
Bahaa@india is rape capital than what about pakistan ,search rape in pakistan and you will be die in shame.
This Looney deserved that ... of all the countries in the world he elected to study in India !!!!
No wrong . Pakistan is our enemy and hence Pakistanis . Go to China or USA or UK for education . What are you doing here ? You know , we are two nations . Don't pollute our country please . Stay away .
@everyone opposing my views:
I have read all your comments and find them highly unconvincing carrying very little weight for a rebuttal. Henceforth, I re-stress on my views and appeal for a round of applause for honourable Jinnahs and Iqbals leading to the creation of this only nuclear Muslim state. Let us all take this opportunity to recite fatihah for Mr. Jinnah and Iqbal - for this noble cause that gave the world a new direction!
Well he deserved it anyway..........Superman is on its way
@Uzair Malik:
TNT was a self-fulfilling prophecy
Why did he go to India of all the places in the World??!!!! Pakistani education is at par if notbetter than India!! this is the reason why our forefathers got us a seperate homeland..some freedoms we take for granted..PakistanZindabad
My respect for great Qaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah has increased tenfold.
Why on earth are they allowed to study in india and indian universities. Do we want to invite another Mumbai type thing. 2 years he was here. Since how long has these policy been active, how many such students live in india for how many years. Spies,Fanatics,Infiltrators, refugee? If they can't invest in infrastructure and universities its their problem not our burden to educate their masses. We separated in 1947 let them deal with their university quality and Infrastructure issues. It's not our responsibility they should be sent back.
Never in Pakistan, India bashing works as an election slogan by mainstream parties. In all indian elections, Pakistan bashing and hatred is an election slogan, indian politicians are playing this shameful role just to get hindu votes. Modi has yet to become the Indian PM and we have this sort of news.
There is a Pakistani " student" in india??how many Pakistani "students" are in India? When there is so much concern about terrorism, letting even one Pakistani inside India is a high risk venture. One wonders what this so called student was up to.
Agree. Pakistan should call back all the Pakistani actors and singers who are staying and working in India, prohibit anyone from going there for any type of medical treatment and also scrap the plan to play cricket with them.
@Stranger: dude, do you seriously think that Indian papers will carry that. Rather you should be appreciating the tone this Pakistani newspaper used for this report. Rather than using the hate speech the reporter tried their to portray as if otherwise India is so cool about Pakistan and Pakistanis!
Modi-mania is manifesting already. What can be expected of Modi and his party.
Not surprised, if you are male and Pakistani muslim, tread with caution if ever travel to India. There is definitely a bias against you. The Indian propaganda machine against Pakistani men in particular is very bad and wrong.
I don't understand the fuss in the comments above. Either these people have not read the entire article or there is something fundamentally wrong with their brain. The student said he has never been discriminated against during his entire stay and it were the other Indian students who stopped the attackers. And most importantly:
"Anand further added that many students had complained that a few groups of students had been assaulting innocent students on the campus."
Some people just need a chance to stir up hatred.
Ther is strong evidence that he was an ISI spy. ++++++++++++++++++++++ Hence the beating.
If you want to study go to any other university in the world but not India. India is our enemy number 1, do remember it. This was a good lesson for all other students and Ali Raza.
Pakistan Zindabad!
It was a fraud by Ali, to gain media attention. It never happeded in two yeasr and only a few dats before his return this happened. In coninuation of Malala and Hamid Mir practices
@Uzair Malik:
I don't know how your two nation theory fits into this picture.....He might be attacked because of his nationality and not because of his religion since there are many other Muslims students studying and residing in the same hostel where this guy was also staying.....Moreover according to my knowledge, two nation theory means.......Muslims and Hindus are different in everything, culture, customs, religion, dressing, etc and cannot co-exist together....and not Pakistani and Hindustani.......I would have justified your saying if it had been a communal clash between two religious groups, but in this case I can't figure it out.......Please explain me.........
Mr stranger times of india, india express many publish this news.
now we are going to hear comments from pakistanis like....secular...democratic and god knows what all meaningless things....dat explains the educational standards of that country :)
@ uzair malik what irony Jinnah's only daughter and family are settled in india not pakistan and her family is the owner of famous business firm Bombay dyeing india. Jinnahs great grandson is owner of IPL Punjab kings eleven team former priestly zinda bf ness wadia. Seems like even she dint believe in her fathers vision and settled here forget others. Btw Two nation theory ended with the creation of Bangladesh and fall of Dhaka.
This is his own fault. What the Pakistani student is doing in an Indian university. They are not welcome here.
Seems like retaliation for expelling our journalist. Why are these students studying in india anyway don't they have good universities in their own country? First they do mumbai, kargil, parliament, plane hijack, soldier beheading, smuggling drugs fake currency gold. But want sports, business ties, tourist, work visa and educational scholarship to study in india? Both burn us and benefit from our economy? This is not two nation theory rather two faced theory. Send them all back nothing till justice is served to 26/11. Why has my comment been edited ET ?
shame !!!!
@Stranger: The newspaper editor might loose an "eye" if he opts for reporting in the upocoming Modi government!
Attackers may have been North Indians with a grudge against Pakistan. South Indians don't normally harbour that kind of ill feeling.
Non state actors just like Samjutah express??
Speechless..
I had Nepalis, Bangladeshis , Jamaicans, Arabs and even one Indian in my University. We lived in the hostels like a family.
How come it explains two-nation theory Mr.Uzair Malik ?
Really...now u understand the great 2-nation theory....i understood it in 1971...fall on dhaka.. :P
Mr malik@ then what about the indian journalists who told to leave pak yesterday
he must be posing himself as an indian till yesterday...
Shameful and abnoxious!! The animals who did it should be locked up and meted exemplary punishment.
Shining eendia.. I suppose.
There is a clear and present danger in VISITING INDIA and it seems to exceed anything the Taliban can present to tourists. It's time "western tourists" dumped as a destination. Its the rape capital of the world
@Uzair Malik:
"Pretty much explains the two-nation theory – Thumbs up for Mr. Jinnah and Mr. Iqbal!"
Let me add one more point.
The very fact that a Pakistani had to come to India for higher education, destroys two nation theory.
:-) :-)
First Pakistani's considers India its No.1 enemy. Then they abuse us for being communal. Then send their students to study here. And then expect full security for their studens.
Being a failed country with poor quality education compel them to send their students here...sad
To be fair, if he was in Pakistan, he would have been killed for having a Shia name...
It explains nothing! Muslims do this to each other over here as well. There is wholesale killing of Shias going on and we have the nerve to wave the flag of two nation theory.

"Pretty much explains the two-nation theory – Thumbs up for Mr. Jinnah and Mr. Iqbal!"
If beating up of a Pakistani student in India explains two nation theory...does raping of a poor Pakistani woman by an Alim in Pakistan, destroys two-nation theory?

Heres the word for you Indians always accusing Pakistanis for violence. S-H-A-M-E!
This is very unfortunate. The culprits should be punished, no matter who they are, to the full extent of law.
What's going on in India these days? People are getting raped and beaten up left, right and center.
This is not acceptable. Period.
Send them all back nothing till justice is served to 26/11 victims.
GEO's "AMAN KI ASHAA"
Why did he go to India to study out of all the places in the world?
A very sad Incident.. Now tribune will be filled up with Indians who will blame ISI for this incident as well..Shame on Indians.
why he was in that country which is known for un-likeliness for muslims
The world's largest deMOCKracy... shining India.
.......whoever did it, has done no favour to India.
Sincere apologies to Ali in case this attack is motivated by his country of origin. Hope my fellow Indians involved in this despicable act are severely punished and made an example of. There should be no tolerance for this type of behavior.
How come it has not appeared in any of the papers of India ? I think there is more to it than that meets the eye .
Of all the places in the world, why did he chose to go to India to study? And what sort of treatment did he expect from people who have nothing but hatred for Pakistan and Pakistanis?
Wow india. So much for peace between us....
Is this a sign of things to come with the upcoming Modi government?
Shameful and unacceptable.
so it all started even before Modi took the charge ....
Pretty much explains the two-nation theory - Thumbs up for Mr. Jinnah and Mr. Iqbal!
