LAHORE: “Nurses represent life and hope for patients. Their role in fighting disease cannot be ignored,” Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Anjum Habib Vohra said on Sunday. He was addressing a gathering at the Lahore General Hospital in connection with the World Nurses Day on Sunday. Nurses and doctors attended the event. Vohra said trained nurses were a valuable asset, not just for hospitals, but for the society as well. Nurses played a key role in sensitising the public about preventative measures regarding dengue fever, polio and other epidemics. He encouraged nurses to continue the good work and said the civil society, media and religious scholars must help them do that. The principal said nurses rose above discrimination in serving humanity and urged them to become role models in their profession so that others were encouraged to join it. He said the modern health delivery system was incomplete without the role of nurses. He said the chief minister had taken several steps to improve the standard of health services, including providing job security to nurses. Nurses should now reciprocate by improving their performance, he added. Several speakers at the event encouraged nurses to serve efficiently, with dedication and devotion, not only by taking care of injured patients but also in the health education sector.
