Curbing crime: ‘Patrolling system revamped to make Islamabad more safe’

Interior secretary says 49 check points set up to monitor security.

A total of 49 security check points have been established on various entry points of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). This was said by Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Marriyum Aurangzeb in the parliament house on Friday.


Answering a question of Zahra Wadood Fatemi in the National Assembly, she said the points are working round the clock to curb crimes.

Responding to another question, she said the database of 14 police stations of ICT has been computerised and being shared with the Rawalpindi police.

The patrolling system of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has been revamped to make it more safe.

As many as 22 commandos and anti-terrorism squad (ATS) vehicles have been included in patrolling fleet to work in three shifts for surveillance to prevent terrorism.

A joint coordination security plan for Rawalpindi-Islamabad police and Rangers is being is in place on IJP Road and adjacent areas to curb crimes.

According to a survey conducted by the interior ministry, a total of 84,591 people are residing in 24 katchi abbadis of the ICT.

In response to another question, Aurangzeb said there were over 7 million drugs addicts in the country including patients using sedatives, tranquilizers and other such medicines without doctors’ prescription. She said three treatment centres were being run by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in Quetta, Karachi and Islamabad where free of cost treatment to drug addicts was being provided. Over 80 per cent harvesting of drugs has been increased in Afghanistan, she said.
