Targeted attacks: Political party workers among 11 people killed in the city

Two drug dealers were shot dead in a clash with a rival group.

Two political party workers and two drug dealers were among 11 people shot dead in the city on Wednesday.


Ahmar Imam and Affan of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were shot dead in Malir. SHO Khan Muhammad Shaikh said that the deceased were associated with the party’s Shah Faisal Colony sector and were sitting outside Ibrahim Villas when two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire at them on Tuesday night. Imam died on the spot while Affan succumbed to injuries during treatment at Jinnah hospital on Wednesday.

In an unrelated incident, Bilal alias Paindo, 30, and Haroon Abdul Rasheed, 35, were killed in a clash between two drug peddling groups near Kala Pul within the jurisdiction of the Defense police station.

SHO Obaid Khan said that the deceased were residents of Chanesar Goth in Mehmoodabad. He added that both men used to deal in drugs. Bilal, according to the SHO, was associated with the Ashok Kumar group in Chanesar Goth and was out on bail as he had been arrested by the police earlier. The police claimed to have arrested a suspect along with a weapon from the scene of crime.

Near Shafiq Morr, 28-year-old Omar Hassan was shot dead within the limits of Gabol Town Industrial Area police station. The authorities said that the deceased was a resident of Macchar Colony and was a driver by profession. SHO Abid Hussain suspects that Hassan might have been killed by his companions over a dispute. No arrests were made.

Separately in Ittehad Town, a hakim was shot dead within the limits of Baldia police station. He was identified as 55-year-old Wazir Khan. SHO Muhammad Shahzad said that the deceased was a retired employee of Jinnah International Airport. He added that two men opened fire at him as he was on his way home.

In Korangi, the police found the body of a young man identified as Kamran Shah, a resident of Bilal Colony. They said he was kidnapped and shot at multiple times.

Two suspected robbers were also killed as they tried to escape after looting a shop on Abul Hassan Isphani Road. Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station SHO Aurangzeb Khattak said that the culprits opened fire at the police and tried to escape but were killed in the retaliatory fire.

Extortionists killed

Two alleged extortionists were killed in an encounter with the police in SITE. The police said that a Karachi Electric employee, who lives in Sher Shah, was being harassed by the extortionists for quite a while. Police officials claimed that when the extortionists finally called the man to collect Rs500,000, he informed the police who dispatched a team to get to the location as well. The police said that the extortionists were threatening the complainant and had sent him bullets as a warning.

“At first he was asked to pay them at Banaras Chowk but when he got there, they told him another location near Valika Chowrangi,” said SHO Rana Khushi. “When he got there, they told him to go to another place and stand next to a rickshaw. When he did, two men got out holding pistols to collect money from him.” He added that the police jumped to action and were shot at by the alleged extortionists. There was retaliatory firing in which the culprits were killed on the spot. The deceased were identified as Akbar Ali and Shahid.
