National flag carrier: Govt striving to improve PIA’s affairs
ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed has said that the government is striving to overcome the losses of the national flag carrier, along with improving its affairs by inducting competent people into the institution. Responding to a calling attention notice in the National Assembly, moved by Syed Naveed Qamar regarding the closure of a number of sales offices of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in various parts of the country, Ahmed said PIA was experiencing continuous losses due to corruption and mismanagement. He added the government was trying to address all these issues. Ahmed said it was the government’s agenda to provide more employment to the youth besides strengthening the institutions. He clarified that only some sales offices were being closed where demand was low. He, however, informed the house that the government was ready to review the decision.
