HYDERABAD:

A group of non-governmental organisations is observing an education week to highlight issues affecting the education system in the province.

At a press conference on Sunday, Strengthening Participatory Organisation executive, Mustafa Baloch, said that the NGOs will organise rallies, seminars and hold protests across Sindh to highlight the problems. The activities will be based on the theme, ‘Education First’.

“We want to build pressure on the government to take initiatives to improve the overall education system,” said Baloch. The campaigners will focus on pressing the government to enhance the budget allocation, increase parents’ and society’s participation, general mobilisation and control the drop-out rates. According to Zahid Thebo of the Society for Protection of Rights of Children (SPARC), around 50 NGOs are voluntarily participating in the drive.
