ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) emergency disaster management directorate will hold a mock fire drill on Tuesday at the Jinnah Convention Centre to commemorate Firefighters’ Day, which was celebrated around the world on Sunday.

Environment Member Mustafain Kazmi held a meeting at the CDA headquarters to finalise preparations to mark the day. The mock exercise will involve extinguishing fire, a search-and-rescue operation to save people stranded in a high-rise building with the help of sniffer dogs, and first aid and on the spot initial treatment of the injured.

A minute of silence will also be observed to pay tribute to firefighters who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Firefighters along with firefighting and rescue vehicles will also hold a flag march on a designated route to create awareness among the masses about the importance of the day. The flag march, would end at the fire brigade headquarters.

The CDA chairman would distribute certificates among the best performing rescue workers and firefighters.
