The true potential of Mercedes will be on display at the Spanish Grand Prix, according to Paddy Lowe, the team’s technical director.

Mercedes have dominated this season’s Formula One circuits by winning every race. The rivals will be hoping to be on level terms and Lowe believes this weekend will be the benchmark for the rest of the season.

“Barcelona is classically seen as the first big milestone for upgrades from the teams and we can expect to see quite a range of developments,” said Lowe, according to ESPN.

“The circuit itself is highly demanding on the cars: arguably requiring the best combination of power, handling and aerodynamics seen during the entire season.”

Meanwhile, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes his team should be relentless to extend the gap over the rest of the competitors.

“The first European round of the year always provides a prime opportunity for teams to arrive with improvements to their cars,” he said.

“If we are to build a sustained level of success in this sport, any small advantage must be seen as a platform upon which to build a bigger advantage.”
