On duty: CM allocates Rs42b to modernise police system

Govt to equip them with latest weapons, protective equipment such as APC vehicles, helmets and bullet-proof jackets.

The chief minister of Sindh, Qaim Ali Shah, announced the allocation of Rs42 billion in the current fiscal year for modernising the police system to maintain law and order in the province.


Presiding over a meeting of home and finance department officials, he directed the finance department to release the required funds for the immediate completion of the various development schemes of the home department. These schemes include work on prisons, police stations, police check posts and residential accommodation of the police force.


Highlighting the significance of maintaining law and order, the chief minister said a peaceful environment was the top most priority of the provincial government and all the available resources were being utilised in this direction. Since the law enforcement personnel were on the forefront in combating terrorism, he said, it is the prime responsibility of the government to equip them with the latest weapons, protective equipment such as APC vehicles, helmets and bullet-proof jackets, and easily accessible residential accommodation near their workplace.


Provincial Home Secretary Dr Niaz Abbasi, Principal Secretary to CM Rai Sikandar, IG Prisons Nusrat Manghan, DIG Police Finance Captain Tahir Naveed, Special Secretary Home Nawaz Shaikh were present.
