The 28-year-old father-of-two was arrested last week and confessed to three brutal murders, saying he wanted to send out a message about the “evils” of homosexuality, though police insist he had sex with his victims first.
The killings have sent shockwaves through Lahore's underground gay community, who fear Ejaz could be lionised as a hero in a conservative society where homosexuality is stigmatised.
In an interview with AFP from his prison cell Sunday night, Ejaz, who sported a neat trimmed beard and was kept shackled, expressed remorse over the killings but said he was acting to stop wrongdoing.
"My way was wrong. It is tragic that the families have lost their relatives but they were spreading evil in society and I had to stop it," said Ejaz, who is due to appear in court on Monday.
"I wanted to warn them to stay away from this evil."
The killings happened in March and April, according to police officer Asad Sarfraz, who headed the investigation. The victims were a middle-aged retired army Major and two other men, both in their twenties.
All three were found with their necks broken and had been sedated.
After examining their mobile phone call logs, police were able to identify Ejaz's number and found another former lover whom they used as a honey trap to lure him to a meeting a week ago, where they arrested him.
Ejaz, who was married in 2011 and has two infant children, said his family knew nothing of what he had done and insisted that he was not gay himself.
"I started going on Manjam two months ago using my mobile phone, and found that the gays are everywhere in Lahore," he said, referring to a popular social networking website.
"They are spreading evil and transmitting diseases. They cannot control themselves," he added.
Ejaz said he was the victim of sexual abuse by an older boy when he was around 10 years old and had led a deeply unhappy childhood.
"I have hated them ever since what happened to me," he said.
The case has shone an unwelcome spotlight on Pakistan's closeted gay community, who are often afraid to come out to their families and in the absence of gay venues rely on the Internet and mobile apps to arrange clandestine dates.
With sex outside marriage both illegal and deeply frowned upon, same-sex partners are generally able to avoid the same level of scrutiny unmarried heterosexual couples come under.
With the case due to be heard in court on Monday, one member of Pakistan's gay community said he was worried Ejaz could be hailed as a hero by some conservative Muslims.
"The problem is that paedophilia and homosexuality are often conflated, so people think eradicating homosexuality means eradicating child abuse," he said.
Ejaz had been a sexually active member of the gay community for several months, the man claimed.
"It seems he was motivated by self-hatred and internalised homophobia," he said.
"The worry is – will it inspire others to do the same?"

@Anwar Khan yes
@Syed: i just know one thing no one around us is chosen to be gay/lesbian though religiously its prohibitedRao but seriously Pakistani society is full of bisexual people where even the mature and respected one like to have beautiful guys around them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What if he was a sexual-thrill freak who got caught and is now using 'teaching gays a lesson' as an excuse?
Anyway regardless murder is murder and hope he is not garlanded with flowers and French letters by excited bearded lawyers!
if ur son or daughter is gay/lesbian they shud nt be afraid to come out as only in this way this society wud realize the number of ppl who are actually being tru to them selves and nothing else!there is nothing wrong medically with gar people neither mentally or physically so why term it a disease! islam traches of non propagation of something bad!like adultery or being gay etc!as long as gay marriage doent become legal in pakistan religion shud have no problem with someone leading his own life
@Anwar Khan: ITs shame that majority of people in society support murder !
Time to name and shame such criminals:

It's funny when Pakistani citizens take up the onus of defending others and urging them to not be afraid and doing what's right and talk about being liberated and urge others to stop hiding and come outside, I truly admire admire you Mr. Nobody and Mr. Stranger. I'm sorry, are you a man or a woman, can't see past the anonymity.
Pakistan's Gay Community!!! Where does this come out from. ET stop surprising us. We are and remain eastern society.
Attention all those who are in the favor of homosexuality in Pakistan must talk sensibly please. Alhumdulillah Islam gave us ideal code of Conduct for living the ideal life. so please give these idiotic suggestions to the western world coz they could adopt those but it can never be imposed or practice in Pakistan insha Allah.
I read some people referring to Hazrat Lot`s story, how come a whole city became homosexual ? i mean both men and women ? Its not possible, researchers say 11% of every population is homosexual, you cant even find a single road where everyone is homosexual in any gay friendly country and Lots story tell us whole city turn into homosexuals, HOW... Plus homosexuality should be legalized in Pakistan as any developed country, as someone said above, stop living in 16th century
@fdsf: Yes, let's all grab the tar and feathers and burn these evil gays. You really think homosexuality or promiscuity is Pakistan's biggest concern? You don't find it odd that as more "Islam" finds its way in to Pakistani society, the more society is falling apart, the more violence/hatred we see and the less tolerance we see? That isn't a coincidence mate.
Don't we all have an uncle or an elder cousin or a servant who is touchy feely? This is our day to day life, it happens everywhere in Pakistan; even in the most liberal and modern families. We need to educate our children about such acts and give them confidence to speak up. It's unfortunate that Ejaz did not get the justice he deserved, but going after innocent people and kill them in cold blood is not the solution. It's time we address Child Sexual Abuse and work together to eradicate that rather than blaming others and killing people.
Realy Sad. He enjoyed as a homosexual lover and when he have some fursration he kill the peoples who may have given him pleasure, satisfaction and may be fincacial help also. Who is here who get the chance to enjoy the homosex and he refuse. 50 % peoples are involves in the homosex.
lol! would people really call him a hero? even after knowing that he had sex with those gays before killing them...
@fdsf: totally wrong. lut nation was child rapist..gay are by birth and its natura even in animal.guess
The way of teaching could've been different.
@Pakistani: Keep it up .We are with u
Its time for Pakistan to accept homosexuals and grant them equal rights.Your discomfort does not mean that you should push to restrict what is right for someone else's life. Its time to pass the law for same sex marriage!!!
i believe even the pope and right wing americans (and also russian president) will call him a hero, why just blame pakistani society, may be and just may be american republicans are right on gay debate there
As wrong as his actions might be, (taking law in his own hand and his dubious past), Sodomy is one of the greatest sins. Have we as Muslims forgotten the destruction of Hazrat Lut's nation.Let's not take this as a platform to advocate homosexuality. It is and will never InshAllah find it's way in Pakistan. All those wannabe liberals, who don't even know what liberalism essentially is (except bantering about gay rights and legalizing a promiscuous society), can well, sod off.
Well history is full of gay serial killers. From Dennis Nilsen to Colin Ireland, and from Jeffrey Dahmer to Muhammed Ejaz most of these serial killer have sex with guys and then they kill them just to fulfill their beastly desire of killing people. i dont believe people will make him hero because these kind of psychopaths are just serial killers and nothing more than that.
This psychopath should be given death sentence by breaking his neck .. and Bilwaal should come out in support of LGBT community ..
if gays are wrong then so are the millions of adulterers in this country who regularly involve in extra marital sex..stop being hypocritical country men! islam is for everyone to follow!i dont even think being gay is a problem, if it remains hidden
@Stranger seems u r also one of the member of this secret society. remember what we r teaching to our children, being a Pakistani and Muslim we can not afford such acts. the way ejaz adopted was totally wrong there are lot of other ways to stop boys getting indulged in such kind of activities rather than assassination.
What is there to like about a murder and his killings? Is it some kind of holy jihad or we trying to carve another Mumtaz Qadri out of total psychopath? This man should serve all his life in jail. Killing three human beings can't be justified in any way.
He's a Dexters fan, that's for sure. And I think it will inspire other homophobics to do the same.
Time to shower rose petals
ET How do you know this? Any clue or just assumption? "The killings have sent shockwaves through Lahore’s underground gay community, who fear Ejaz could be lionised as a hero in a conservative society where homosexuality is stigmatised."
Please bring gays out of the closet . they have a right to live as much as we do . Stop ostracising people.
@Anwar Khan: You mean, the actions of having sex with a gay guy, and then murdering him?
I think you're wrong, majority of our countrymen will just support the first act of his, behind closed doors though. You know how it is in hypocritistan.
There appears to be more than what is seen on the surface , these kind of killers are well known in the society, they exist every where, even in the most homosexual tolerant places. Psyche of such criminals has been studied by criminologists and the feeling is that they themselves have leaning towards gay tendency.
How can people support this kind of action. How about that, if I feel offended with the people who drink. Should I start to take law in my own hands as well? One wrong action cannot be justified with another wrong action.
Typical hysterical western media.
He is a common murderer whom is attempting to justify himself. Like murderers are wont to do.
And @AnwarKhan, you might have missed the bit about the police using a honeytrap on him.
What a way to team them a lesson!
I say come out in the open. Legalise gay X . Let them be accepted in society. Please lets stop leading 16th century lives.
The truth is... people like it or not. Majority of people will support his actions
