LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday sought a reply from the federal government on a petition challenging the appointment of Maryam Nawaz as chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Youth Loan Programme. Syed Muhammad Iqtidar Shah, the petitioner, said the government had issued a notification on November 22, 2013, appointing her to the job. He said the appointment had been made in violation of law without issuance of any public notice or an advertisement. He also said there was no prior consultation with the Council of Common Interest.  Shah said the Supreme Court had laid down procedures and criteria for such appointments in the Anita Turab case. The petitioner requested the court to declare the appointment void.
