KARACHI:

The Pakistan Railways police suspended one of its constables for allegedly slapping a Chinese engineer on Friday at the Karachi Cantonment Station. Moreover, a case has been registered against the constable and he has been incarcerated.

According to officials, constable Ejaz, who served as a security guard, tried to enter the air-conditioned room accommodating the Chinese engineers because of high temperature outside. When one of the engineers stopped him, there was a heated exchange of words, which eventually led to the constable slapping one of the engineers.

Earlier this month, 15 engineers had come to Karachi from China and were undergoing trials of locomotives at the Karachi Cantonment Station. Ejaz provided security to these engineers working on the five locomotives at the Railways workshop.

SSP Robin Yamin told The Express Tribune that a departmental inquiry will be conducted to probe the case. "The constable has apologised to the engineer and he will be dealt with under the law."
