KARACHI: Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada called for organised efforts by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation  (SAARC) to develop an  insurance sector like that of the European Union. “The Pakistan government is extending all possible support to strengthen the insurance sector. It is also studying the successful insurance policies of Bangladesh and India,” said the minister at the second SAARC Insurance Regulators’ Meet and International Conference. This conference was organised by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). The conference is the first of its kind in the history of Pakistan’s insurance industry. Pirzada appreciated the efforts of the SECP to bring together the diverse assembly of professionals and practitioners from many countries for the cause of regional development and growth in the field of insurance.  The minister said the SECP served as an effective vehicle for mobilisation of funds.
