A delegation of China Machinery Engineering Corporation led by its president Zhang Chun called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday.
Matters regarding cooperation in energy sector were discussed in the meeting. The company expressed interest in investment in coal power projects in the Punjab.
Talking to the Chinese delegation, the chief minister said friendly relations between China and Pakistan had turned into useful economic contacts. He said the economic policies the government had restored confidence of foreign investors.
He said government was providing facilities to foreign investors on priority basis.
He said the government had selected six sites for coal power projects in the province.
He said an agreement has been finalised with Chinese companies for setting up two power plants of 660 megawatts in Sahiwal while the interest shown by China Machinery Engineering Corporation in setting up coal power plants in Rahim Yar Khan and Muzaffargarh augured well for the projects.
Chun informed the chief minister that a memorandum of understanding had been signed with the government for setting up coal power plants in Gadani.
He said his company wanted to invest in the energy sector in the Punjab and was desirous of establishing coal power plants at selected places in Rahim Yar Khan and Muzaffargarh.
Minister for Minerals Sher Ali Khan, the additional chief secretary and secretary minerals were also present.
