LAHORE:

“Several neighbours of Pakistan are working on projects to mitigate climate change and receiving aid from international donors. Pakistan, however, has not been investing in climate change projects,” Farhan Anwar, an expert on strategic planning, said on Sunday.

He was speaking on the concluding day of a two-day workshop on Understanding Sustainable Cities orgnaised by Friedrich Neumann Foundation at a local hotel.

He said the four scenarios of climate change: extreme heat, urban flooding, drought and rise in sea level.

He said policymakers should start thinking about investing in climate change projects in Pakistan.

He said a poor local government structure was a hurdle for Pakistani cities on the way to becoming smart cities.

He said the provincial and the federal government were unable to execute projects for cities.

He said several mega-cities had flourished under strong local governments.

FNF Country Representative Dr Almut Besold said thanked participants at the end of the two-day workshop and said the conference aimed at raising awareness among people on issues surrounding climate change and how it affected sustainable cities.

The error that the "global warming believers" make is that this movement is about climate change, when it is really about wealth change.

When viewed from the proper perspective, everything related to this socialist movement makes perfect sense.

For political theft to be possible, a collectivist excuse is required that subordinates private interests to it.

Only with the backing of public opinion will the resulting crony capitalism, confiscatory taxation, regulation, and redistribution be possible to inflict on a massive scale.

The President's inauguration speech is a fine example of showing how to establish the collectivist excuses for the coercion and compulsion that follows.

The government can’t change the weather, but it can help us prepare for bad weather when it comes. That’s the point. Yet climate change deniers would rather leave us at risk than lift a finger towards caution — less it be deemed an admission that climate change is in fact taking place. Though we may never agree on what causes climate change, we should agree we need to get ready for it.
