Embezzlement: PWD official granted bail

LAHORE:


Lahore High Court on Thursday granted bail to a Pakistan Public Works Department (PakPWD) executive engineer accused of embezzlement.


The court directed the accused to submit surety bonds of Rs1 million.

Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik passed the orders on an application filed by Executive Engineer (XEN) Humaira Khurram.

Her counsel told the court that Khurram was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency on charges of embezzlement. He said the petitioner was arrested without any evidence and inquiry.

FIA Director Usman Anwar also appeared before the court on being summoned.

He said Khurram was arrested on charges of embezzling Rs49 million in development schemes.

He told the court that an inquiry committee had been constituted and a challan would be submitted in the light of the committee’s report.
