The Bollywood heavyweights were inseparable, but industry insiders may have reasons to believe otherwise.

Bollywood’s Badshah Shahrukh Khan shocked fans by not appearing on the finale of Koffee with Karan season 4, and set rumour mills ablaze with news of a fallout between him and host Karan Johar. The Times of India points out a number of reasons why this may have happened.

Reason 1: War of the Khans

It’s no secret that Shahrukh and Salman Khan have their differences, and recent events have shed light on the possible inclination of Karan Johar towards Salman Khan. Proof of this is the fact that it was not SRK, but Salman who opened this season of Koffee with Karan. Could this have caused a rift between KJo and SRK?

Reason 2: No movie to promote

Koffee with Karan disappointed this year, pairing up actors who were already on promotional sprees, rather thinking outside the box and bringing in interesting celebrities.  Hence, we saw Madhuri Dixit Nene and Juhi Chawla who starred in Gulab Gang, and Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor who worked together on Gunday, make appearances together. King Khan’s next Happy New Year, is slated for an October release, and this season was a little too early for promotions to begin, which could be one of reasons SRK did not appear on the chat show this time around.

Reason 3: Professional commitments & health concerns

Shah Rukh Khan is busy shooting for filmmaker Farah Khan’s Happy New Year, and was unfortunately injured during shooting when a door fell on him. The actor had to take some time off to recover, which may have caused work to pile up. With both a health scare, and so many professional commitments, SRK may not have been able to make time for KJo.

While these reasons are plausible, all in all it may just be a case of conflicting schedules. Johar and Khan have an admirable bond, and we don’t want anything to happen to it.
