FAISALABAD: A proclaimed offender was killed while his accomplices managed to flee after an alleged encounter with the CIA police in Jaranwala Saddar, City Police Officer Dr Haidar Ashraf said on Wednesday.

He said a CIA police patrol had received information about a gang of robbers holding up citizens near Chak 111-GB on Tuesday night. A police team headed by CIA Makkoana In-charge Inspector Zafar Iqbal reached the scene and told the robbers to surrender, he said.

The CPO said that there was an exchange of fire and the robbers took cover in a field. The shootout went on for half an hour.

One of the robbers sustained serious injuries and his accomplices fled. Police found the injured robber lying in the field. He was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

A .30-bore pistol, a mobile phone and Rs1,100 were recovered from him. Dr Ashraf said that Jaranwala Saddar police have registered a case against the robbers and are looking for them.
