KARACHI: Karachi’s Tahir Khan clinched the 75kg title at the ninth All-Pakistan Inter-University Boxing Championship, as he defeated Central University of Punjab’s Muhammad Sufyan 3-0 in a closely fought match.

The three-day championship took place at the Sindh University of Jamshoro in Hyderabad.

According to Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) official Akbar Ali Shah, the championship saw a record-breaking number of participants this year.

At least 85 pugilists represented 16 universities in the championship.

“It is very encouraging; this is the first time that so many universities competed in the event,” Shah told The Express Tribune. “The Higher Education Commission held this event while the PBF was happy to provide the referees and judges. The level of competition displayed was superb. This will be a good approach to find boxing talent from educational institutes.”

Meanwhile, in other categories, Punjab University’s Syed Zulqarnain outclassed Peshawar University’s Waseem Saleem 3-0, in the 81kg final.

Punjab University’s Amir Khan took the gold medal in the 69kg event. He defeated Islamia University Bahawalpur’s Muhammad Zubair 2-1.

On the other hand, Sindh University’s Muhammad Hussain knocked out Iqra University’s Muhammad Adnan in the second round to win the 64kg title.

ET kindly be more specific while writing articles. Tahir Khan is the winner in only of weight categories not the Champion in the entirety of the weight classes. It seems from the article that he is the all out winner. In Boxing there are different weight categories from Bantam weight upto heavy weight. Tahir Khan is the winner in only one of the weight categories just like Syed Zulqarnain , Amir Khan and Muhammad Hussain in other weight categories.

Kindly change the heading or the the bold first paragraph as it is misleading.
