Demanding electricity: KKH blocked for several hours
KOHISTAN:
Hundreds of villagers blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) for several hours over the delay in provision of electricity to Dassu and Komela areas of Kohistan. Led by Maulana Waliullah, the villagers took out a procession from Jamia Masjid Komela and after marching through various roads, blocked KKH near Green Chowk. Participants chanted slogans against Wapda officials and the government. They said the government generates thousands of megawatts of electricity from natural water resources of Kohistan but has not yet acknowledged their right to the utility. Protesters lamented that Wapda had erected electricity poles years ago but was yet to install wires on them despite repeated requests. They warned that if their demand was not met within the next week they would march towards Islamabad and block KKH for an indefinite period.
