Rediscovering cuisine: Food festival to open on April 11

An arts and crafts display and musical performances will also be held.

LAHORE:


The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) will organise a 10-day food festival at Fort Road Food Street on April 11.


The event, titled Lahori Khaba Ustad, will include a contest between chefs of the Walled City. A ‘master chef’ would be chosen for each item.


Billa Chanay Wala from Delhi Gate, Phajja and Fazl-e-Haq Paye Wala from Heera Mandi Chowk, Mehar Daas Kulcha from Chohatta Mufti Baqar, Noori Lassi and Kheer Wala from Yakki Gate, Tara Bong Paye Wala from Koocha Hanumaan, Pani Wala Talab Nihari, Shehzad Lassi Pairay Wala from Lohari, Ameen Khoye Chanay Wala from Sheranwala Gate, Baba Phakko from Taxali Gate and Taj Mehal Halwa Poori from Heera Mandi and Sayeein Kebab Wala will participate in the festival.


An arts and crafts display and musical performances will also be held.


WCLA Marketing and Culture Director Asif Zaheer said, “We hope to turn this activity into an annual event. Our local cuisine is fading away ... there is a need to revive them.”


WCLA Communication Expert Tania Qureshi said, “Such activities will serve as a platform for local artisans to display their skills.”
