FAISALABAD:

Hundreds of people from Millat Road on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against police’s alleged failure to control robbery incidents.

Muhammad Naveed, one of the protestors, told the media that six armed men broke into a grocery story at Taj Colony, Millat Road on Tuesday.

“They took away Rs50,000, mobile phones and others valuable from those present at the store and fled.”

“Afterwards they broke into a house on Millat Road… they fired at Abdur Rehman and Muhammad Faheem when they resisted them.”

He said the injured were taken to a hospital where their condition was later reported to be critical.

Ghulam Fareed, another protestor, said he had called Sargodha Road police when he heard the gunshots. “The robbers could have been arrested if police had gotten there quickly.”

The protestors blocked Millat Road and demanded that the robbers be immediately arrested. They also demanded action against policemen responsible for the slow response.

The protest ended when a team led by Madina Town police superintendent assured the protestors that the culprits would be arrested soon and the matter would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“Strict action will be taken against any policemen found guilty of a slow response.”
