KARACHI:
SME Farmers and Exporters Association (SMEFEA) Chairman Haji Muhammad Saeed has invited the attention of the Ministry of Commerce (MINCOM) to the registration clause in the Strategic Trade Policy Framework (STPF). The clause requires exporters of fresh fruits and vegetables to register with their respective associations. The clause further states that in case of nonexistence of such an association, registration of the exporter should be made with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). Saeed urged the TDAP to register exporters instead of subjecting them to hardships by making them apply to associations for registration. These associations are compelling them to become members instead of simply registering them on nominal registration fees. Saeed recommended that MINCOM should accept membership of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) as valid since it maintains full record of the member along with tax returns filed with the Federal Board of Revenue.
