KARACHI: Unidentified armed men shot dead Pakistan People’s Party electoral candidate for Sindh Assembly seat PS-106 near Essa Nagri graveyard on Tuesday evening.

Zuhaib Hasan Khan, 33, was riding on his motorcycle when unidentified armed men ambushed him and sprayed him with six bullets within the limits of Aziz Bhatti police station.

According to DSP Nasir Lodhi, the assailants managed to flee from the scene while the body of the deceased was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

Police recovered six empty shells of 9-mm caliber from the crime scene. Following initial investigations, officials termed the incident a mugging-attempt gone wrong.

PPP Karachi chapter General Secretary Najmi Alam condemned the killing and demanded that officials arrest of the culprits.

“He was young and active member of our party associated with our party youth wing and was going towards Hassan Square on his bike when the attackers killed him,” said Alam.

After receiving news of the incident, many PPP activists reached the hospital. Alam added that they are still seeking further information about the incident. “It will be premature to say something about the motive behind the killing.”
