KESC continues to receive the lowest quantity, 80 millions of cubic feet per day (mmcfd), of gas from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) against the approved quota of 276 MMCFD.
KESC has to carry out load shedding in industrial areas under extreme circumstances, since the gas supply has come down to a bare minimum. The Karachi Nuclear Power Plant is still not supplying its usual 80MVs.
According to the revised plan for Wednesday, heavy load shedding in domestic and commercial areas will be for 2.3 hours, four times a day, each on a rotational basis. Areas facing medium loss will undergo 1.25 hours each, four times a day. The low loss areas will have to face power cuts three times a day for an hour each.
The water board, sensitive connections, major hospitals and strategic installations will continue to be exempted from load shedding.
Industrial areas have been divided into two groups. Three cycles of load shedding, for four hours each will be carried out in each group.
The industrial groups and the fixed timing of load shedding are:
Industrial Group No. 1: Grids include Dhabeji, Federal A & B, Hub Chowki, Korangi East, Korangi Town, Korangi West, KEPZ, Landhi, Port Qasim, Pipri, Qayumabad, Gulshan e Maymar, North Karachi and Surjani will have load shedding from 12am to 4am, 8am to 12pm, and 4pm to 8pm.
Industrial Group No. 2: Grids include SITE, Mauripur, Haroonabad, Valika & West Wharf will observe load-shedding from 4am to 8am, 12pm to 4pm, and 8pm to 12am.
KESC will have to follow this plan until the SSGC resumes its normal gas supply.
