Wednesday's announcement means that Modi will be contesting from at least two constituencies including Gujarat, his traditional stronghold, and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
The decision was taken at an all-day meeting today in Delhi that brought together the BJP's most senior leaders including Narendra Modi.
Modi has never contested a national election and is a member of the Gujarat legislature.
Earlier, the sitting BJP member of Parliament from the Vadodara, Balkrishna Shukla, had said he would be glad to vacate his seat in favour of Narendra Modi, if the party decides to field him from the constituency.
Advani contesting from Gandhinagar
LK Advani has been requested by his party, the BJP, to contest from Gandhinagar in Gujarat again, NDTV reported on Wednesday. The veteran leader reportedly wants to shift to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh this time.

@Salman: Dude you didn't get it. Since independence indian muslims (muslims who voted for the creation of Pakistan but did move to Pakistan) want to declare india as Islamic state but bjp is opposing it since 1986 and want to implement constitution which states that india should become a secular state with the implementation of uniform civil code. That was decided in 1945. It is my guess that some indian muslims will move to Pakistan the day india is declared as a secular state. I don't know what democratic state has to do with indian muslims moving to Pakistan. Isnt this what jinnah also wanted? I am not responsible for the actions that was taken or decided long before I was born. I am not responsible for 1950 agreement. It would be better if you read some history. Also you are not saying why Pakistan is sending hindus to india?

@Atif: Two big issues that are unsolved since independence are agreement of 1950 and whether india should be a secular country or a religious country with islam having upperhand. Modi wants to make india a secular country and indian muslims are opposing this since independence. Both Pakistan and bjp believes in two nation theory and want to open border for Pakistani Hindus to move to india and indian muslims to move to Pakistan. This will also help in solving Kashmir issue. I am not sure whether Pakistan can take so 8-9crores approx of indian muslims.
