
“The government is spending billions of rupees on public welfare. Reforms are being introduced for capacity-building at government departments and for improvement of administrative structure,” said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday.
He said resources generated through promotion of financial discipline and austerity were being utilised for provision of facilities to low-income segments of the society.
He said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was staying true to its manifesto of public service.
He said transparency, merit and standards were hallmark of the Punjab government.
He said the PML-N and its leadership would meet the expectations of masses and efforts would be made to steer the country out of the quagmire of problems it had been in.
He was talking to lawmakers from various districts and party workers at Raiwind. The chief minister said shortage of electricity had become a serious issue due to negligence and inefficiency of former rulers.
He said controlling the energy shortage was of vital importance for development of industrial and trade sectors, promotion of investment, elimination of unemployment and resolving economic problems of the masses.
He said a large number of local and foreign investors had expressed confidence in economic policies of the government and had shown interest in investing in energy, infrastructure and transport sectors.
He said energy companies from China, Turkey, Germany and Canada had signed agreements with the government for investment in power sector.
He said the government’s efforts would result in growth of the economy, resulting more jobs and industrial development.
The chief minister said promotion of good governance, elimination of corruption, maintenance of transparency, upholding of merit, improvement in living standard of the masses and bringing deprived segments of the society into mainstream of development were top priorities of the government.
He said the government wanted eliminate existing obsolete systems. For this purpose, he said, information technology had been promoted in government departments for provision of better services to citizens.”
