Balming burns: Burns centre issues treatment statistics

ISLAMABAD: Burn Care Center (BCC) at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences has catered to a great number of patients since its establishment in December 2007. BCC head Dr Tariq Iqbal said a patient with 80 per cent burns was successfully treated at the BCC in 2011. Regarding treatment, he said patients were treated free of charge and also provided with advanced burn dressings and synthetic skins. Dr Iqbal said that no burn unit in Pakistan was treating patients on similar lines. He informed that out of a total of 35,666 patients — 19,604 males and 16,062 females — only 472 patients died due to severe burns. He said that about 1,376 patients were discharged after minor or major advanced burn dressings whereas 1,848 patients were given indoor treatment.
