Alternative strategy: ‘Promotion of food industry can help end poverty’

The food industry can generate large revenues by promoting value addition and quality packaging.

“The food industry can generate large revenues by promoting value addition and quality packaging on par with international standards,” University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan said on Tuesday.


He was speaking at a food exhibition organised by the National Institute of Food Science and Technology (Nifsat) at the UAF.

The UAF VC said promotion of food industry could help alleviate poverty in Pakistan.

Khan said the value addition in the food industry was essential to compete with the rest of world. He urged the food experts to ensure the quality of food exports was compatible to the international market. He encouraged the students to innovate and take advantage of post-harvest and value-addition technologies. The Nifsat director general said the exhibition was aimed at providing a platform to students.
