Contest: Girls participate in rock, wall climbing competitions

Competitions focus on theme of 'equality for women is progress for all' to emphasise gender equality, empowerment.

Around 100 girls participated in rock and wall climbing competitions organised by the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) over the weekend to celebrate International Women’s Day.


The competitions focused on the theme of “equality for women is progress for all” to emphasise gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Saba Javed, Zainab Mushtaq and Ammarah Anum secured the first three positions respectively in the sport climbing contest at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Sunday. Anum and Javed also got the first and third positions respectively in Saturday’s rock climbing competition, which was organised by ACP at the Margalla Hills in Saidpur. Komal Iqbal finished second in the rock climbing event.

The winners of All Pakistan Sport Climbing Championship were also awarded shields. They included Azam Ali Mughal, Jamsheed Akhtar, Zaheer Ahmad, Sehrish, Hira Bibi, Salma Naeem, Faiza Bokhari, Saad Mehmood, Husnain Ahmed, Bilal Qadeer, Hanzala Hussain and Umar Bilal.

ACP Vice President Saad Tariq Siddiqi praised the performance of girls in the climbing contests. Siddiqi said the ACP will continue to provide opportunities for training, practice and competition in rock and sport climbing.
