Self-immolation : Girl dies of burns

20-year-old girl Asiya Bibi had received 80 per cent burn injuries before being rushed to the PIMS.

MUZAFFARABAD: A 20-year-old girl who had attempted self-immolation in Kotli two days back died on Saturday at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

According to the police, Asiya Bibi, a graduate and a resident of Siyah village in Kotli, set herself on fire on Thursday.

She had received 80 per cent burn injuries before being rushed to the PIMS.

Her parents were allegedly forcing her to marry her cousin, which she opposed because he is illiterate. The Kotli police detained Asiya’s father soon after the incident, but released him on Saturday evening.
