As many as 295 Pakistani students have completed their doctor of medicine (MD) degrees from the University of Medical Sciences, Villa Clara, Cuba. The degrees were awarded to students in a ceremony presided over by the Cuban Vice Minister for Public Health, said a press release issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) here on Saturday.
Almost half of the graduates — 142 students — finished their studies with distinctions. The HEC has made travel arrangements to bring the young doctors back to Pakistan beginning from the third week of March.
Pakistani Ambassador to Cuba Qazi M Khalilullah, was also present at the ceremony, while HEC Project Director Tahir Abbas Zaidi represented the commission.
The Cuban minister expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of studies of Pakistani medical students and stressed on the need to further strengthening bilateral relations. Zaidi congratulated the graduates and thanked the Cuban government for providing an excellent environment to the Pakistan students.
