A university in Uttar Pradesh has suspended 67 students from Kashmir for celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in a cricket match on Sunday.
According to the Hindustan Times, trouble began on Sunday night, when a group of local and Kashmiri students were watching India-Pakistan cricket match in the hall of the hostel. A few Kashmiri students cheered every time an Indian player’s wicket fell, later celebrating Pakistan’s win.
Vice-chancellor of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Dr Manzoor Ahmad said he was taken aback by such a gesture by the students. "Some students complained that a few students reportedly shouted Pakistan zindabad while going to their rooms," said Ahmad.
He said the authorities initially decided to suspend only those students who had chanted such slogans.

India is demonstrating its real hidden face based on prejudice and hypocrisy against Pakistan......
U we're telling about Kashmiri love for Pakistanis, do u think that about a few guys shouting against india represent the whole of Kashmir? Can u firmly say that every single person in ur country supports Pakistan? What about balochis north west etc? They r fighting for a separate country, so called kasmiri could shout abuses against their country only because INDIA is so great, if it was in ur country they would have been killed long ago, just like what u r doing to ur minorities?..
@Hamza: I am from the southern state of india , we have got many friends who support pakistani teams and their players , we even play bet with them. But the situation there was different, after winning the match they we're shouting "india mordabad" , remember they are the same guys living in india studying with indian scholarship( how many of us get it) earning in india and then abusing the country, have u seen this situation any where else in the world. Just think of the situation when a few Hindus shouting " Pakistan mordabad" after India's victory, what would be the result??
Nationalism is a very common feeling among citizens of any country. It is as simple as that. I remember more than a decade ago the defender of a South American team was shot dead back home for accidentally scoring a self goal during a world cup match. It is not without reason that George Orwell compared matches between teams of two different countries with wars!
All Sachin fans in Pakistan should be sent to India.
I LOVE YOU PAKISTAN
Wait till Moody gets in
How about we (India) deport all the Kashmiri muslims to the country they so love (Pakistan) and you (Pakistan) send us all the Hindus and Christians living like a second class citizens in your country? Both sides win! Oh, you guys should really forget about Kashmir unless you think you'll ever develop the military capability (in your dream) to defeat a country of 1 billion plus people. It's just foolhardy to think Pakistan can ever defeat India militarily. That's the ONLY way India will let go of Kashmir. So, instead of wasting your scarce resources on your corrupt military, use them to develop and better the lives of your people.
@Hamza: Ya Ya, I know how much love there is your country for India.
Well well......who knew how civilised, soft hearted and mature Indians were!!! Well done India. I'm just wondering what happened to the freedom of speech and expression.
India can fool themselves if they want, but the Pakistani team is awesome. We love Pakistan!! And we love our fellow Muslims in Kashmir!!
i remember india pakistan batch in peshawar, and all the ANP students took indian flags and cheered for india and india won that match... yet no one expelled any students, no one even bothered to care.. its just a game.. shows how immature indians and indian govt is. Afridi was spot on... indians are small hearted people...
This just shows the weak Indian mindset, that is all.
The equation is very simple, and Pakistanis, please don't get too excited.
It's the religion talking, on nationality, which is the biggest problem for the muslim world, and especially for Pakistan.
Many Indian muslims may have soft corner for Pakistan, but not a single person (even Kashmiris) would want to relocate to Pakistan because that is where reality takes place.
So, for your own sake, focus on your country's welfare, not on the religion whatever that maybe.
@TribuneReader:
Well said, Even I was part of that match, That day alos after we left the stadium some guys caught us outside and started fight. Then we ran to local rialway sation where we told the railway police. That day we thought that they are going to kill us.
Lets see how many of these kashmiris want to take up the offer of Pakistan to migrate and study there. Sedition is sedition. No democracy or country allows the same. its clear from Paki comments, that indeed India and Pakistan are now so far apart, that they will never reconcile in future. 65 years of animosity has indeed had its effect.
The situation for Kashmiris and Muslims is very bad under Indian rule. Hindu dominance is part of everyday life, and Muslims are marginalized.
Why should students suffer for supporting a sports team? This is utterly ridiculous and proves without a doubt the truth about Indian "democracy" terrorism against Kashmiris and Muslims.
India should realize now it can't keep Kashmiris from loving our brothers in Pakistan.
And those who r indians here...i just wanna ask them that we are not the part of endia and never we acept it, pak is running in our blood and we love pak more than our opressed occupied kashmir.. . . every kashmiri loves pak, but u fortunatly pak hve not supported us from last several years... . . and u indian if u wud hve been here in kaahmir wen pal defeated india you would have with your eyes how much kashmiris celebrate that win...really that was fabolus night...
@Indian reader: Please vacate Kashmir - Indian is occupying it illegally in breach of UN resoultions. it is an occupying force and Kashmiris want it to leave.
@GRK: There are Baluch nationalists in the National parliament, also they are leading the provincial government in Baluchistan.
Baluchis can say what ever they like, and by the way most Pakistanis also wish Indians well.
The difference here is Baluchis dont want to be part of India (a small minority want independence),
Most Kashmiris, however, want to be part of Pakistan - they are in fact occupied Pakistanis...
A few years ago in QED university, Islamabad, a group of baloch students waved the Indian flag and cheered for India in a pak-Ind match being shown on a huge screen in the university. This led to a quarrel and other students stopped them.
@Faraz: A Pakistani questioning Indian about liberty of speech and maturity! Funny world.
I, wonder how would Pakistanis had behaved if the Balachui's would have said "Hindustan Zindabad" after an Indo-Pak match
@PakiGal: Who ever wants to support Pakistan, or wants to live in Pakistan please vacate India. We don't need you!
Dear Civilized, educated, Indian nation,
Where exactly are you hiding the rights to liberty of speech?
@Peshawri: We are a grown up and mature nation. Check international media if you want to know the status of India in US, Europe and other countries and we all know how much matured Pakistan is.
@Sumsum: I don't think Pakistanis would have cared which cricket team you support or chaired for...
However, if you are a Qadiyani or Shia some looney mullah here would have you killed...(its crazy)
Anyway just want to say to our Kashmiri brothers and sisters, we love you, and will never stop loving you.
We understand you are in a terrible predicament.
You have suffered enough.
@Sumsum: they r kashmiris..not indian citizens...india knows that...u dun need to be surprised
I wonder what will happen, if some students cheered for India in pakistan...just wondering
Indian here. .. this is a stupid over-reaction on part of the college. I love watching Pakistani cricket team too .... they are great even though I always want India to win.
The question that comes to mind is: what would we pakistanis have done if any of our citizens had celebrated an indian win?
Dear India ! Please Grow up !!!! be a mature nation !!!!
welcome to mighty india, the country that claims to be the biggest democracy in the world.
World's biggest democracy? lolz
Pakistan 11 exposes biggest democracy of the world.
Had that happened in Pakistan to a dissident group of Pakistanis, the liberals would have been going berserk over freedom of expression issues but since it happened in India nobody is bothered. Indians living in England support India whole-heartedly during matches between India and England and while such a behaviour is not liked by the Englishmen for obvious reasons, it does not result in their expulsion from England and instead these Anglo-Indians are counted by BCCI as their revenue to legitimize its Biggest3 status. What is even more ridiculous is the fact that not all of them were supporting Pakistan and all 67 kashmiris were suspended for not naming a group within them supporting Pakistan.
They were actually expelled
Well, truth be told. It is a crime in Pakistan to chant any pro India slogans. If this were the case here, I'm sure the consequences would have been a lot worse. Even possible deportation for non-citizens.
Apparently, the BJP is now demanding police action- so much for the world's largest democracy. I wonder why the Kashmiris on our side of the border don't cheer for the Indian team? Maybe, it is is because Kashmiris feel that they are a part of Pakistan? Fact is Kashmiris in Pakistan are happily integrated into our society- I would know since I am part Kashmiri. In Indian Kashmir, on the other hand the government is virtually running a police state. Bravo India, keep on expelling and silencing Kashmiris just because the truth hurts.
Kashmiri brothers, we love you too!
Hahahah jealous indians.. feel pity for those who are suspended..
Now the media plays his role, dramatise everything propagate the information, Indian Govt. and Media both are same names. they ignore repeatedly the truth, "Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan" Kashmiri love us not because we played well but this love is based on ideology,Culture Religious.
But..but.... Kashmir is an integral part of India and the Kashmiris want to be part of India (Sarcasm). To be honest people I know who were at Mohali during the world-cup semi-final told me that the majority of the Pakistani team supporters in the crowd came from Indian Occupied Kashmir. Even the CIA is on record saying that Kashmiris are overwhelming pro-Pakistan. Of course Indians won't accept this fact even in the face of overwhelming evidence.
To be honest if someone would have done the same thing in Pakistan, our public reaction would have been similar to this.
Hahahaha seriously? though the victory was worth getting suspended :D
I really appreciate a move by university head. Its not about sports its about punishing wrong mindset. We indians can't tolerate these people's who are getting higher education on indian tax payers money.
An eye opening incident for our media and 'aman ki asha'
Shame on India and Indian system of hatred against Pakistan. So what if anyone supports any team. We also have Indian team fans over here. Nobody suspends them from universities.
Serious case of over reaction - what a little bit of friendly chatting between authorities and students would not have solved. Sad.
