Renewal of arms licences: Home dept to extend deadline
Officials say that regular fee for re-verification of license is Rs 1,000 but, this time, Rs4,000 extra to be charged
KARACHI:
The Sindh home ministry has decided to extend the deadline for the re-verification of arms licences for the fourth time, though, this time the weapon holders have to pay a penalty. Official sources told The Express Tribune that the idea to impose a penalty was decided at a meeting chaired by the chief minister a few days ago. “The CM has directed us to give another chance to licence holders before starting a crackdown to confiscate their weapons,” said a senior official of the home department. He said that the regular fee for the re-verification of a license is Rs1,000 but, this time, Rs4,000 extra would be charged. “Out of a total one million licence holders, around 450,000 people got the re-verification forms and 408,065 have submitted the same,” said the additional secretary for the home department, adding that the rest have not yet turned up.”
