Armed assault: Journalist critically injured in attack

Meeting of Mansehra Press Club convened today (Monday) to discuss future line of action.

MANSEHRA: A journalist was critically injured in a shooting in Mansehra on Sunday. According to the police, Ibrar Tanoli, the general secretary of the Mansehra Press Club, was heading home when an unidentified man opened fire at him while his car was stuck in traffic on Shinkari Road. Police said Tanoli was shot in the neck. He was rushed to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital from where he was referred to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad. According to doctors, Tanoli is admitted at the intensive care unit. The journalist has worked with several international news agencies as a stringer and also as a correspondent for the Abbottabad-based Urdu daily Hazara News. In 2013, Tanoli was arrested on the charges of allegedly murdering Haleemullah, 26, and his brother Zakirullah, 16, and had been released on bail for the past few months.  The motive behind the attack has not been ascertained. Meanwhile, journalists in the region condemned the attack on Tanoli and demanded the arrest of the assailant. A meeting of the Mansehra Press Club has been convened today (Monday) to discuss the future line of action.
