LAHORE: Police found a confession letter written by the suspected murderer of eight people, Nazir Iqbal, late on Saturday night.

Investigation SSP Chaudhary Abdul Rab said the mystery of the eight persons’ murders stood solved after Iqbal’s confession letter was recovered. The letter said that he had killed himself after murdering seven of his family members.

The suspected killer allegedly committed suicide immediately after committing the murders by drinking a sedative chemical and juice. Police said the chemical and the juice bottles bore his fingerprints on them.

They added that the chemicals were also found in his stomach.

The SSP said the forensic report of the splatter of blood found on Nazeer’s face showed that the blood drops had been airborne.

Abdul Rab said that such droplets could only be on someone’s face if he or she was present in the room at the time of murder.

Police said they had found the diary with the confession letter on the first day but had not disclosed the information.

“The police have sent the letter to a forensic laboratory to analyse the writing,” said Abdulrab.

The SSP said Iqbal had also mentioned reasons for killing his family members in the letter before committing suicide.

Police said he had been angry about not having been able to marry. “Iqbal wrote that despite there being a marriage proposal his brothers had not helped him get married.

He said he felt they had wanted to usurp his inherited property,” said a police official. He also said Iqbal had mentioned in the letter that he was being mistreated by everyone at the house, and that his kin had been treating him like a servant for several years.
