A full dress rehearsal was held at the National Hockey Stadium on Friday as part of preparations of the India-Pakistan Punjab games of the Punjab Youth Festival. As many as 500 athletes participated in the rehearsal.
Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Director General Usman Anwar was chief guest at the occasion.
The Pakistan-India Punjab games will commence March 2. A 99-member Indian delegation will arrive in Pakistan on March 1 to participate in eight events.
A reception for the Indian teams will be held at the Punjab Stadium during which gymnasts will put up a show to showcase their skills. It will be followed by a programme to highlight the Punjabi culture.
Last year, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had invited the Indian kabbadi team to participate in the PYF kabaddi competition.
An art exhibition in connection with the PYF was held at the College of Home Economics.
Works of Syeda Faqia, Anum Khan, Komal Hafeez and Rabia Ashraf were displayed at the exhibition.
A large number of students also set up stalls featuring various works in designing, colouring, sewing, screen printing, digital printing, block printing, artistry, interior decoration, bed sheet designing, calligraphy, oil painting, graphic printing, renovation and furniture designing.
Research papers on market trends, growth and needs of children and importance of food and nutrition were also presented.
Minister for Sports and Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan and his wife were the guests of honour.
Mashhood told the audience said that the exhibition, an initiative of the Textile Department, was an important part of the festival.
Home Economics College Principal Samia Kalsoom, Vice Principal Ambreen Sagheer, and Coordinator Mrs Shaheen also were also present.
Punjab University VC Dr Mujahid Kamran on Friday presided over a meeting of all heads of departments to review arrangements for world record attempt of national anthem singing to be held on February 24 at the Punjab University Cricket Ground.
PU awards two PhDs
PU has awarded two PhD degrees to Zahida Nasreen Sulahri in Arabic after approval of her thesis titled Critical Study and Editing of the Manuscript Dhao Mishkat-Al-Masabeeh by Sheikh Faiz-Ul-Hasan Saharanpuri (1887 AD) and Muhammad Khalil Khan in the subject of Medicine (Dentistry) after approval of his thesis titled Evaluation of Clinical Effects of Toothpowder on Plaque-Induced Gingivitis.
