Narrow escape: Police van damaged in roadside blast

Doaba police SHO Islamuddin says the raid was planned to arrest a proclaimed offender in the area.

HANGU: A police mobile van was partially damaged in a bomb explosion in Hangu on Tuesday, however, no loss of life was reported. Doaba police SHO Islamuddin revealed that a police convoy along with personnel from Islamabad police was on its way to conduct a joint raid in the area when a remote-controlled device exploded along the road at around 1pm. “The raid was planned to arrest a proclaimed offender in the area,” he said, adding the blast damaged one of the police vans. Islamuddin confirmed all police officials remained unhurt in the incident. Meanwhile, the district police launched a search operation and arrested 17 suspects in various areas of the district. Hangu police official Azmat Bangash said they also recovered weapons during the crackdown.
