A police officer has been demoted for conducting faulty investigation in a car-lifting case. The acting Regional Police Officer (RPO) Akhtar Umer Hayyat Lalika demoted Mukhtar Ahmed from the rank of Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) to head constable for showing negligence.
Ahmed had denied obeying Lalika’s orders, who then transferred him from Police Station Sadiqabad to Murree for not filing a car-theft case and non-recovery from the custody of Mardan police.
The car,owned by Sibtul Hassan Malik, was stolen on January 5 from 6th road. When the owner went to the police station, the ASI refused to register the case. The owner then approached high-ups, on whose order a case was registered.
Meanwhile, the SHO of Toro police station in Mardan on receiving a call from Rescue 15, intercepted Ameer Hamza, a resident of Gujar Khan, who was taking the car with a fake registration plate to Peshawar. The Mardan police contacted the Sadiqabad police and conveyed a message to Malik that his car had been recovered. But ASI asked Malik to go to Mardan and get his car back after bribing the police.
A flustered Malik went to the CPO Office and lodged a complaint. The CPO transferred the ASI to Murree besides serving a show-cause notice on him.
