Lawyer’s gesture: Reference against judges withdrawn

Abid Saqi says reference has been sent to SC registrar under Article 209 & Section 5 of Constitution.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association has withdrawn a reference it filed against the former chief justice and three other Supreme Court judges in the Supreme Judicial Council. The LHCBA had sent the reference against former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdary, Justice Jawad S Khawaja, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain on November 10. LHCBA President Abid Saqi had told press conference the reference had been sent to the Supreme Court registrar under Article 209 and Section 5 of the Constitution. LHCBA Vice President Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar Nihang had said that the bar had reservations about the former chief justice. However, the remaining three judges had attended the annual dinner hosted by the bar for its members a few days ago. The bar decided to withdraw the reference against them as a gesture of goodwill.
