MULTAN:

As many as 10 people, including a child, were injured on Wednesday in a firing by a fishermen group over another, police said. Both groups had been claiming ownership of the same boat.

Police said the firing occurred near the bank of River Ravi in Qutab Shahana in the Sahiwal district.

On Tuesday, police said Muhammad Hanif and Muhammad Shahid, both fishermen, had had an argument over a boat in custody of Hanif.  Shahid claimed that the boat was his. This had led to an argument.

On Wednesday, Shahid and his men shot at Hanif’s house, injuring at least 10 people, including a four-year-old and two women. They were taken to district headquarters hospital, where all of them were said to be in critical condition.

Hospital administration enacted an emergency. Police said special teams had been formed to patrol the area.

They said they feared there might be more firing from the other side.

The Bahadur Shah station house officer told The Express Tribune that FIR had been registered against nominated assailants. Police were looking for them.
