Youth festival: Lahore teams win football, hockey

Lahore beat Nankana Sahib in the inter-district football game of the Punjab Youth Festival on Wednesday.


As many as 7,444 people participated in various events of division-level games of which 1,238 qualified for the next round. The inter-district football games were held at the Punjab Football Stadium.

Lahore won 3-1 on the penalty shootout.

MPA Mian Naseer was the chief guest. Hr also announced the Lahore division team for the next level of football competitions.

“Sports are part of a nation’s image. The government is paying special attention to development of sports,” he said.

Earlier, Lahore division beat Kasur division in the semi-final by 2-1 to book a place in the final. Nankana Sahib had beaten Sheikhupura 1-0.

In the cricket match held at Iqbal Park, Sheikhupura beat Kasur by eight wickets.

Batting first, Kasur managed 37 runs for seven wickets in six overs. Sheikhupura achieved the score losing two wickets in four overs.

In a hockey match, Lahore beat Kasur 4-1 at Johar Hockey Stadium Johar Town. Saifur Rehman scored two goals and Wasim Akram and Abdur Razzaq scored a goal each.

In Rawalpindi, 341 athletes competed and 95 moved to the next round.

In Sargodha, 54 out of 142 players moved to the next round.

The heaviest participation of day was seen at Gujranwala where 4,372 people and 182 won.

In Faisalabad, 373 people participated in various events and 103 were successful.

Sahiwal saw 625 athletes and 278 moved to the next round.

As many as 292 people competed in various events in Multan and 116 were successful.

Among 141 participants in Bahawalpur, 67 moved to the next round.

In DG Khan, 682 people participated and 203 won.

Cooking and dress-making

Cooking and dress-making competitions were held among a large number of ladies at Sanatzar in Iqbal Town on Wednesday.

Khawaja Ahmed Hassaan, chairman of the Lahore Transport Company, was the chief guest.

Sameera, Majeeda and Mahak were declared winners of the first three positions of the family cooking competitions. In individual cooking contests, Adeeba was the winner. Badarul Nisa and Rabiya secured second and third positions, respectively.

Mahvish Latif took the title of best dressmaker in the family category. Khalida Haneef and Tahira Safdar got the second and third positions.

In individual competitions, Sonia Asghar, Maliha Ashraf and Shamila Yasin took the top three positions.
