Ghotki engineers’ protest continues

Protest and token hunger strike by the Ghotki Engineers and Graduates Association enters its sixth day.

SUKKUR: A protest and token hunger strike by the Ghotki Engineers and Graduates Association entered its sixth day on Sunday. The activists are protesting against multi-national companies in Ghotki district for not recruiting local engineers.

The association was formed by young engineers and graduates one and a half years ago to raise their voice against the discrimination.

For the last six days, the activists led by Mohammad Moosa Khoso set up a protest camp at Bhittai Chowk, Mirpur Mathelo, where they went on a token hunger strike for four to five hours daily. But no government functionary or elected representative of the ruling party has visited their camp so far, the protesters complained.

“I am an engineering graduate in telecommunications from Mehran University, but there is no job for me in any of the multi-national companies [in the district],” Khoso said. Accusing multi-national companies of favouritism and nepotism, he said that people from other provinces are hired instead of them.
