A four-member high powered CERN Technical Team (CTT) – led by CERN’s Director for Research and Scientific Computing Dr Sergio Bertolucci – is due to arrive on Monday (today) on a four-day visit to Pakistan as part of the evaluation process for the Associate Membership (AM) of CERN for Pakistan.
Besides holding meetings with the authorities concerned, the team will also hold meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain to discuss the relevant issues, said Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Director PR Shahid Riaz. He said the CTT would assess and evaluate the scientific activities being undertaken in Pakistan. “The Team will also visit universities, scientific organisations and industrial complexes in the country,” he added.
Riaz said CERN, located in Geneva, Switzerland, gave preference to Pakistan because of the contribution of Pakistan to CERN in terms of manpower as more than 30 Pakistani scientists always work in the research organisation.
“Pakistan has a very cordial relationship with CERN, which is the world’s leading scientific organisation conducting research on High Energy Particle Physics since its inception in 1954,” he said.
CERN members include 20 European countries. Recently, Israel has been accorded imembership. CERN has three associate members and five observer states including India.
“There are numerous benefits, if Pakistan becomes CERN’s associate member. These include engineering contracts to support CERN programmes, which will be beneficial for our industrial sector and human resource development,” he said, adding that it would also help in technology transfer in key areas of radiofrequency (RF) technology, ion beam optics, cryogenics.

CERN appreciates the Pakistani scientists for their efforts in the fields of science and technology and especially for nuclear research on which this very organization mandated for. As far as regional complexities are concerned India is not a member of NPT. It is having a wavering status in NSG and its membership is being questioned many times. CERN acknowledges the credentials of Pakistani scientists and this is a moment of pride. Every country is facing lots of social ailments along with these appreciations for development. It also reflects the acceptance of Pakistani scientists at the international level
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is world's largest Physics research centre. Its collaborations with Pakistan is great news for the entire nation. The CERN is world's best centre for research on universe's mysteries. European states realized Pakistan's efforts in the development of science and technology.
@Usman Mubashir: Neither Pakistan nor India is a member of associate member of CERN. Pakistan is most likely to get the associate membership at the end of 2014. All members are Europeans with Israel joining in dec, 2013. India is not a member, nor an associate member, she is just an observer.
from wikipedia: Pakistan's name has been unanimously approved by CERN council for the process of achieving associate membership,at a meeting on September 17, 2013, which could potentially lead to Pakistan’s associate membership by the end of 2014.

@Fighter: India also has a seat already
I'm not hating anyone my dear neighbors but i think that Pakistan is neither a signatory of NPT nor it has any unique nuclear deal with the member nations of NSG (Nuclear suppliers Group ) like India which is an essential prerequisite for becoming even as an observer member like India at ITER experimental reactor at Cradache , France being developed in CERN's leadership leave alone Pakistan becoming an associate member of the club to build the great ITER reactor for controlled nuclear fusion to produce renewable and pollutionless clean energy......i think they are actually offering you something lollipops type just as yours exaggerated space program was gifted by a second hand damaged satellite that even at a higher price which become Pakistan's 1st operating satellite and become a failure as projected....a simple advise get your facts correct........India is currently a partner there successfully sharing the finances and technical know-how with the group while manufacturing various quality components in India and supplying them.....moreover the project is in the last phase and nearing completion now so there's not much left to do......
In Wikipedia it is written as follows.

Let the haters hate. Pakistan Zindabad!
@shiva. Dont fall your self in a sort of superiority complex. Pakistan like many other young nations is facing numerous problems and comitting mistakes. As mentioned in the articles, its the Pakistani man power that is main motivation for CERN to give membership to Pak. Dont monetize everything. A country can have many assets other than Dollars. This love for dollars have motivated indians to put future of Cricket at stake. Plus there was no need for you to comment here. Go and work for ur country. Fight poverty and Hindu extremism before giving us suggestions.
exciting
Great news for our country. I'm really happy and wish that Pakistan acquire this.
It great achievement for Pakistan to become the first Asian country to obtain Associate membership of CERN. Pakistan and Pakistanis have always contributed towards development of science and technology in the world.
