A head constable and former Special Services Group (SSG) official was gunned down by unidentified militants in Maneri Bala village, Swabi on Sunday afternoon.


Khalid Iqbal, an official of city police Swabi told The Express Tribune that the retired SSG official Bakhtiar Ali had joined the police after his retirement from the special army force and was deployed at Swabi Police Lines as a head constable. Iqbal said Ali used to train police personnel in methods of tackling militancy and conducting operations against militants.


Ali was sitting at a timber point near his house when three masked motorcyclists opened fire at him, killing him on the spot.


After the incident, heavy contingents of police surrounded the area and launched a search operation, however, no arrests were made.
